The Big Wheelbarrow stands on the outskirts of Port Hedland, an industrial port town in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. Known as Marapikurrinya to the traditional custodians, the Kariyarra and Nyamal people, Port Hedland is one of the world’s busiest bulk export ports and a vital hub for the region’s iron ore industry.

Positioned at the entrance to the Wedgefield Industrial Area, the Big Wheelbarrow celebrates the town’s deep mining heritage. Fittingly, it was built using parts from an iron ore truck—an enduring tribute to the industry that shaped Port Hedland and continues to drive the Pilbara’s prosperity.
